Baofeng DM-X DMR

The first thing is to work out why you have no receive. It could be totally unrelated to the firmware upgrade, or just a preset in the upgrade that is incompatible.

Go back to basics. When it receives a signal on the selected frequency, does the display indicate it is there? If it does, and you cannot hear it, then check the obvious as in no accidental tone features engaged, or a small frequency offset, or a narrow band receive mode set but a wider signal coming in? I’ve no idea why people apply firmware updates as if they are loading code plugs, they NEVER seem to work well going back a version or two, and as the radios evolve from the factories, some updates just won’t work on some versions. I have a rule. You ONLY change firmware when there is a clear reason to do it. A bug removal, a frequency extension, a feature change. They’re dangerous, because they’re rarely tested on every version of the radio so the most obscure things happen you don’t expect. I suspect you have a problem with the firmware changes - something in the radio that now works differently, or even reversed. I had a Kenwood where the firmware update to add a scrambling function replaced the 5 tone code function, and Kenwood didn’t even know!

@paulears thanks for your ideas! Actually I have checked all of the below before posting:

  • Both display and LED indicator shows the active reception (but I could not hear it)
  • Tone features are disabled
  • There is no frequency offset (and I checked it for different frequencies)
  • Narrow band receive mode is not set

I have gone even further - I have checked this device against 1702 GPS version side by side with the same firmware (to have an identical firmware on both devices was actually my first intention and the main reason for updating).1702 GPS version analog reception is loud and clear and non-GPS is silent. All settings were identical. On the other hand DMR reception is good on both devices.

My last hope was to downgrade to an original 1702 non-GPS firmware but I failed to find one. I have tried every single firmware from @pm_cz collection - no luck.

Any suggestions?

Hey buddy, vlad.theodor

Am I right that there is already a fb group for these radios !?
What a pity, for those people who don’t have and don’t want to have fb… right.

At the risk of being removed from the forum…stop with this @*&^ fb! :face_vomiting: :face_vomiting:

Daft, totally daft. If something you want is on a social media platform you don’t like or approve of, you have a choice. My wife cannot stand Facebook. So for the few things she has to use it for, as in her workplace group where people swap days off etc, she uses mine. The point is that if Facebook has a vibrant group, with information you need/want, then your choice is a simple one. Getting cross because it is your only choice is simply daft. Who loses out by you refusing to view it? Just you! The people on the group clearly like it!

Yes! I don’t like this so-called social network! And yes, I don’t use other people’s profiles for anywhere to do any of MY business. To my joy, I realized in the distant 2012 that the so-called social network is a brainwashing, universal and purposeful human manipulation. Please define for me the following common example: “I have virtual friends/friendships”. These 2 words virtual and friend do not complement each other. Why is every second child, teenager, adult stuck in their nose and not getting out of the O>O(&& virtual society?
I need information - not go…gle, not this network. There are alternatives - there are many.

I wish you all - good health, true friends to be surrounded by and share with them both good and bad! :kissing_heart:

In this case, stop complaining you cannot participate. It’s fine to not like or even approve of Facebook, it’s a choice. Clearly you have an opinion that others disagree with. I find it amusing because the radio hobby is totally social media like - you talk to foreign or local people you don’t know, you become friends with them, but all they know is what you’ve spoken about. Even this forum is the same? I’d visit the library, or join real societies and meet real people. “Virtual” and “friend” work really well together, in my humble opinion. A for brainwashing and manipulation, that’s simple paranoia, happens to many who find social media not to their taste. Not liking it is fine, telling others it is wrong, is different - and so restrictive to modern life. Was the one hour zoom call I’ve just been on a bad thing? Of course not.

There seems to be a chance to implement alternative firmware for DM-X / DM-1702 but it needs some work. The radio is similar to the TYT MD-UV380 aka Retevis RT-3S. More information at:

buenas podrias mandarme el sofware de cargar los contactos

quitq las fajas de conexion y buelve a ponerlas despues de limpiarlas a mi me funciono

BD4VOW has started work on OpenGD77 for DM-X / DM1702. If he manages to work out the hardware of this radio then further work may enable the creation of OpenGD77 for this radio but there is still a long way to go

Same here. They say that is not one of their radios. I’ve tried to install CPS software and it failed. Installed Wireshark and can’t get it to work. Read that you hold the # key while turning on the radio. Now the display is totally blank. Can Not figure out any way to make progress with this POS I was cheated out of money for by a criminal maggot on Amazon. Any suggestions except to part it out and find some use for the battery and charger?

The connection has timed out

The server at s000.tinyupload.com is taking too long to respond.

Firmware updates are being treated like codeplug software. Give it a try, i5 might work. This is simply stupidity. People buy a working radio and for some strange reason, with little research, and usually without the manufacturer approving it, they slap in a random firmware upgrade designed for a different model, or even different brand radio. Radioddity, Kydera, Retevis all have identical-ish products. Will a version 3 pcb and chipset, remembering chip shortages making swaps now common, respond well to a version 4 firmware upgrade? I’m sick of people buying radios from me, that work perfectly as supplied, being returned as faulty when they tried a Retevis firmware upgrade from a different model, on a kydera, because they LOOK the same. Especially when their credit card do an automatic chargeback! I sold one dead one on ebay, and told the truth, why it was dead. I got half what I paid for it. The guy told me he cured it (I failed) with a firmware update for an aliunce that I’d never even heard of. Software is fine, experiment away. Firmware is at your own risk, but people keep doing it! It is NOT the radio’s fault. Hams are by far the worst people for taking chances, failing, and then demanding refunds.

My Win 10 never found it. Is there some combination of keys to hold while powering up for the computer to find it?

Found this versions here Retevis RT72 cps software.
And here: L05.01.005 - Upload with 1.00.66 (1.0.66)!!! you need two files (bin and bininifiles)

Now you can read/write only with RT72 CPS, squelch seems to be more sensitive as MD CPS…
As a first seen it shows that you can not add more as 15 channels to scan (in RT72 CPS).
Anyway, thanks Pavel Moravec for posting in Google Drive!!!

Update: Can’t find recording any more in RT72  GPS still working. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Update2: Analog channels are scrambled (voice scrambled) and DMR - i hear nothing from mmdvm with L05.01.005 bin file.
I will put back 1702 bin file. :sleepy:

pass
Set battery value at 2800, don’t go under. Do NOT use the “Online Test” - just only the normal “Test” as in the picture at top. Read data from radio as usual then read again in this “Test”-menu, at end mark “write” and write. Save to close menu. Make print-screen or camera photo as backup!!!
Well, using MD-CPS 1.0.78 with extra-menus.

don’t get upset
we can help you and it will work

“Greatest” baofeng. I changed it a long time ago with Anytone 878
Although it is my first radio, I keep it and use only as an analog APRS (after reworking the battery cover with pulse feeding 8-32V / 2A and APRS board module.

Daniil, where did you lose so much time?

I downloaded and unzipped the file. I see 2 files in their own folder now. Thing is, how to get the firmware file into the radio so it will work. I haven’t found a program or a way to have my computer communicate with the DMR-X.
