There are many more repeaters in the GR area. Must be something wrong with your radio if you aren’t hearing them.
I know of the Moline Repeater and the one north of town is between Sand Lake and Howard City I believe. There is also one downtown GR the city uses for parking ramp control but is Private. I can not hear any others. Can you tell me where they are at and channel? There are not any repeaters in or near enough to Greenville for me to hit with my current setup. I hope to remedy this soon with the new antenna and tower.
I know this is an old thread but one thing no one brought up. Gmrs is not for chit chatting with strangers, using for road trip talking (to strangers) or any of the non sense that has been discussed here. Just because some weirdo guy that calls him self a queen says different, gmrs is for friends and family to use while doing an activity. It will never be cb channel 19/20 ect. Gmrs will never have a road channel or an emergency channel. That’s not what the service is for. It is for people that already know eachother to communicate while…. Hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, going to the mall, the park, the amusement park, horse back riding, farming, road tripping, …… the list goes on. But it is not for talking to random people while on the road, or even while on repeaters. Like mentioned a road channel or an emergency channel would never want tones set so every one can hear you when reaching out. If you feel you travel enough that you need to talk with other strange drivers on the highway I recommend cb. It is still alive and well on American highways.
Just a reminder that one of our primary rules in the forum is to be respectful of one another. We can disagree without any name calling, personal attacks or derogatory comments directed towards others.
Why would you use a tone on channel 19?
