Baofeng DM-X DMR

SAVE saves a copy of the values to codeplug .data file, where they are backed up. They are normally not uploaded to the radio, but are defaults. Whatever you do, always read the values from radio first and keep a backup .data file, otherwise you may break the radio calibration.

Actually the radio is very loud on audio settings above 2, but MIC will not change that as it is for microphone gain.

Thanks
OK I describe two things independent problems
one very loud audio volume above 2 from the speaker
second very quite audio from the microphone.
For a second problem I would like change MIC2 value and write this to radio

I set MIC2 value 10 and now I recived reports that level audio is compare to anothers

hello again
I’ve been having some problems with the scan function of this radio. Everytime I power-on the radio it starts scanning the selected scanlist, I’ve turned off autoscan everywhere. Also does anyone know what is meant with the ā€œscan back statusā€ option?

greetings,
Houwie

Would it be possible to hex edit the LContact software for the RT72 to allow it to talk to the dm-1702? This would allow csv contact import.

There is no way to make it work right now, as the firmware differs and there are no CSV contacts in DM-X/DM-1702 firmware. It would be like trying to upload CSV contacts to recording firmware in RT3S.

Unless we can flash this type of firmware to DM-1702/DM-X, we won’t be able to use CSV contacts.

I see. Well, not sure if this is known, but I did at least figure out how to import contacts using excel and the software provided with the radio. If you’re running this software in a VM, like me, you may not have office installed. I installed office 2019 on my VM and now the export & ā€œinportā€ buttons work within the software. I’m having issues with APRS though, anyone have APRS working on brandmeister that could share their settings?

Hello, yes importing without Office redistributables is a common issue with this CPS, it is mentioned earlier in this thread if I am not mistaken.

Concerning the APRS, try to set Brandmeister to Chinese Radio and use the guide in post #249. But please note, that some repeaters are not configured correctly (and some only support SMS/APRS on first timeslot). Try to send e.g. the WX SMS to check if you get any reply first, this may be a good indication.

Can you enable ā€œgroup rxā€ management in the menu? In the menu management on the CPS it is enabled but I can’t find it. Thank you

Good evening
I am looking for the internal diagram of the DM1702, especially the part concerning the audio amplifier (TDA2822M). Thank you in advance for your help
Jeff

Hello guys, great job on the development and other discoveries. I’m rather new user with DM-1702, that I’ve already upgraded to *22 version (thanks to this topic), and have a few questions: - is it possible to change from channel name to frequency on the radio - without using programming software?

  • can i turn off squelch completely?
  • VFO A/B - how to use it??? i know how to program it, but where to press on the radio to actually use it?

It be nice to be able to add channels from the radio itself instead of modifying existing channels.

And little hint I’ve implemented in my copy of CPS *78 (with extra menus) - editing language file, i’ve added codes to the test and embedded menus, so i’ll not forget them

Hi He3r0. As far as I know at the moment, the change from name to frequency and and vice versa, it happens only through a computer. For squelch, the settings are 2 and they change from the radio menu. VFO is only in channel mode. I have set the radio to have a channel name - it is more convenient for me to have a name than a frequency. Congratulations on the new stuff. I couldn’t do it.
Greetings 73!

HI  thanks for response, I do too prefer channel names, but… My my encounter with 1702 shows that in frequency mode, while pressing the ā€œbackā€ button for 2 secs you can type in desired frequency directly on the radio, without modifying settings of any channel previously programmed. And you can’t do that in the channel mode. But on the other hand as You have mentioned, VFO is only available in Channel mode, not in frequency (not a biggie really since it can be programmed as ā€œnormalā€ channel - but it is nice to have functionality and use it  )
As per squelch, i’ve just fiddled with it, and yes two settings in menu are only wide/narrow so not turn off, but (again) i literally just found out that with programmable buttons I can set ā€œmonitorā€ mode and that really does the trick on the squelch topic  On the other hand i never had anything more advanced than Baofeng’s 888s so i’m not sure if that would be just a normal day in the Amateur radio world

Hello everyone,

I ordered 2 Baofeng DM-X from wish dot com and they will arrive soon. But now I have a question. I have been reading this tread for a while but it has become an unclear tread for me. My questions are which software should I use for the Baofeng DM-X ?? And where can I download it because the version on Abbree is infected I also read in the tread but unfortunately it is still infected. and what update do I not need that after flashing the radio does nothing anymore because it does not make me happy.

I would like some help and advice. I am completely new as far as two-way radios are concerned

Regards

Ruben

Hello.
Some of the menus are hidden. They are accessed with CPS2_extra_menus. There you can set to show or not. By the way, would you share us DM-X V (02.02.023)? This is the next firmware, if I’m not mistaken.
Thanks :grinning:

When mine eventually gets off the ā€˜depatched via the sun in an alternative universe’ shipping ā– ā– ā– ā– , I may be able to contribute to the discussion, but if my AT-878 experience and CPS experience shares anything, it’s worth noting that when you export or save an edited CVS from a spreadsheet, ensure its a plain text CVS being created. LibreOfficeā€˜s Calc gives you the plain text or not option when you save the edited file, as best I know with MSOffice of docx generation, unless you explicitly export it the plain text CVS, Excel will export in an extended CVS form that has data a lot of CPS’s choke on, since they expect plain text proper CSV’s for import.

So it’s worth keeping in mind.

Mine eventually arrived, half expected to see the arrival of an alien first contact and Halley’s Comet after taking so long to arrive - missing the programming cable…

So i hope that it’s still programmable with a standard micro-usb cable else it’s a paperweight. So far, using an standard micro usb cable, it appears in DM as 'No Printer Attached" - which from what i can gather is correct. Tried to read radio data via the last version of MD posted on here and after a short instance of trying to read, no progress, the radio seems to soft reboot and a read fail at the CPS.

Oh well, it was clear it wasn’t gonna be a smooth path with this set from the postings so far, but i guess i’ll try again on a Win10 machine (a hanging offence in my book) or worst case, dig out a Win7 or Win2003 image to try running in a VM. For whatever mysterious reason - it sure aint getting read via the CPS on Win2012R2 in ā€˜workstation’ setup. Which is pretty weird given it’s the first USB connected device (out of countless ā€˜unsupported’ items which all appeared and worked nearly first time) on WS.

Thankfully it’s not my only DMR unit - and there’s a FT-30D winging it’s way by express D to satisfy my YSF/C4FM curiosity. Still, even the frustation of waiting on the DM-X pales in comparison to the grief i had getting a surplus P.25 mode HT shipped (still stuck this side of the water in Customs, so between them and whatever ā– ā– ā– ā–  US Customs subjected it to, i don’t expect a tidy package…).

To add to pm_cz’s comments about Talk Around - that mode (which has various names on different sets) isn’t normally used as a simplex fallback when out of repeater range when your traffic normally runs through a commercial repeater (where pm_cz’s ā€˜frowned upon’ comment is spot on). Where you commonly find it used is where people are outside of a short-range site repeater (commercial equiv of a hotspot, a repeater with the kind of limited range employed on site-only paging systems). All it actually does is use the split frequency settings you usually use on RPT, but basically stops looking for repeater presence so it sees the two stations as cross-frequency and if the radio equipment was full duplex capable (none of the DMR units i know of has FD capability), you’d be working without PTT full telephony style. Back in my CB days, many decades back, i messed around with full-duplex over split-frequency operation successfully - mind you, it was technically legal (but not exactly frequency occupation friendly) but it sure got a few heads scratching when the received audio (as heard by others) heard two people having an conversation and still being able to answer any break-ins.

If you have real need to not use simplex channels/frequencies, such as being way out of range of radio traffic, or critically need to retain simplex-type ops without switching frequencies, then fair play. But it’s very much a commercial radio feature you’d not even bother with under ham radio use of DMR.

HI All: anybody have an idea how to change the boot Image of the radio? there is a dealer in chile than actualy personalize the radios with a flag on the boot screen of his radios. I
Any Idea?
