The mic is making the radio stay in transmit after the PTT is pressed. Have to unplug the mic and even after plugging back in stays in transmit. Usually have to unplug and plug in several times to get it to stop. I was testing for shorts. The black wire and the gray on the mic are shorted. Are they supposed to be?
Is it supposed to be shorted? I don’t think so. You may have a defective mic. Can you upload a photo of it?
I could send a picture from my phone. I did just try from my phone but it said failed so will have to send from email and download to computer and upload from there.
I cut it off and wired them myself although Im not sure where the white one got to in the cord but cut down further and havent found it. Hooked back up and is doing the same thing so unless it is something with the mic jack or something else in the radio.
I ordered a new mic. Lets see if that changes anything.
New mic took care of the problem.
Even though it took care of that problem, I now have the issue of no audio when transmitting. They sent a 2nd new mic and same issue. So not sure what is the issue.
A few details about the radio and your configuration will help.
- Was it purchased new?
- Where was it purchased?
- Is the radio indoors or in a vehicle?
- What is the power source?
- What sort of antenna is connected to it?
- Where is the antenna located?
- How did you determine it was not transmitting?
- Are you transmitting to someone in simplex or through a repeater?
- What frequency are you attempting to transmit on?
- Are both stations on the same frequency and tone?
- How far away is the other station?
- Can you hear the other station?

-
Was it purchased new? No
-
Where was it purchased? Ebay
-
Is the radio indoors or in a vehicle? Indoors
-
What is the power source? Astron 20 Amp power supply
-
What sort of antenna is connected to it? A 6 Meter dipole and 440 MHZ 1/4 mag mount
-
Where is the antenna located? 6 M dipole is located on a windmill tower mag mount is located inside at the radio since it is set to crossband to a 440 repeater a few feet away.
-
How did you determine it was not transmitting? Tried talking on the UHF repeater with the mic and it holds the repeater open but no audio comes out. When in crossband the audio passes and all is fine.
-
Are you transmitting to someone in simplex or through a repeater? 440 is set to the 440 repeater and 6 meters is on a simplex freq.
-
What frequency are you attempting to transmit on?444.900/449.900 PL 173.8 and 51.520 Simplex PL 173.8.
-
Are both stations on the same frequency and tone? Yes
-
How far away is the other station? The repeater is a few feet away from the Wouxun 950 (is at a tower site)
-
Can you hear the other station? I can hear the carrier as the tone is opening the squelch but when using the mic there is no audio.
Also note. When I bought the radio it did say the radio would stay in transmit with the current mic. I rewired the mic with the same issue. I ended up buying a new mic and it no longer had that issue but has no audio. They shipped me another mic and I tried Thursday night and still no audio so unless both New Mics have the same issue which is unlikely I would think.
One thing to remember, the KG-UV950P only allows 6m and 10m transmission on Area A (left side). Having said that, it does sound like the radio itself may have a problem.
If you haven’t done it already, perform a full reset and re-program the radio. If that doesn’t work, you may need to contact the seller.
OK. Yeah I sent something to the seller but so far have not heard back. I mainly bought it for the 6 meter crossband but would be handy to get the mic audio going for when on site to play around. Other than being at the tower site the mic won’t be used.
I did do a reset when I bought it and its been programmed a few times via the computer.
