Can it be made to TRANSMIT AM in the 118-137 MHz. band? (Please, it is going to be used as test equipment inside of a shielded lab room, so no worries about radiated illegalities.)

Why does the industry cling to that horrible PL-259 SO-239 RF connector on radios? They are NOT constant impedance and their loss at anything above 50 MHz. is pretty poor.
