What should my business buy?

Hello All,

I apologize if this is not the right spot as I am new to the Forum. I’ve done a lot of research over the years and finally at a lost as I get ready to spend the little money I have. I am starting a special events business, primarily logistics based services but also rentals. I have been in the field for a long time and now going out on my own path, I am struggling to spend a lot of money in the start.

I am looking for a decent bulk set of radios (8-24 ish) to use for events, but also to rent out for use as well. Obviously something durable as we all know how people treat rentals but not as robust as the public safety ones (I have experience on the fire side and with handling communications). I need something like itinerant where I could use it no matter where we are for the event but penetrates through large buildings and could even be repeated. Obviously the accessories like ear pieces, speaker mics and gang chargers are also necessary for different operations.

Lastly if I can program them easily it’s a plus. Changing them for rentals such as locking out channels, turning Rodger beeps on and off, and emergency buttons all based on the clients choices. I appreciate any guidance people are willing to share.

Thank you in advance

Hello,

I think we have the right radio for what you are looking to do with these. I would look at the DLR series from Motorola. It is a license free 900Mhz radio that is excellent at penetrating through large buildings, these can also have their range extended easily with a simple router style repeater. They are also digital and frequency hopping which provides extra security. The radio is also easily programmed for free using Motorola’s free CPS software. Give me a call when you have a chance and I’d be happy to go over everything and get you a competitive quote. My number is (888) 569-9499 EXT 245.

I have never got on with Motorola - I realise they’re popular, just not budget friendly. For many years my hire stock featured the small Kenwood TK-3148 UHF radios. They’ve been abused dreadfully and apart from battery replacements and antennas - that was it. Maybe two real faults with around 30 in the stock. I still have over a dozen with a customer. I then bought some Nexedge versions and they were great too. They wer, however, expensive. Two years ago a customer with little money bought some Retevis RT21 radios, plus 6 way chargers. They just ordered more, and I have to say, I’m impressed with these. I’ve now got some for stock, and I think with the hire season coming soon, these might be great for those customers who you know will bring them back in a terrible state!
