Want recommendation for loud radio w/ firm volume control

I’m looking for FRS/GMRS radios to use when skiing at large ski areas. Aside from a generally good radio with maximum range, good battery life, and small size, my top concerns are:

  1. It’s sometimes hard to hear radios inside ski jackets, so they should have high volume settings.

  2. It’s easy to inadvertantly lower the volume while some radios are inside pockets, so the volume control shouldn’t be too loose. The more effort it takes to turn it, the better. (Ideal would be volume buttons that can be locked, but I don’t know of any radios like that.)

Any suggestions? Any thoughts on how the Midland GXT740 and Motorola MR350R rate on these factors?
