Uv5r 8w programming problems

I recently purchased a pair of uv5r 8w radios. So far I’m having no luck programming repeaters in my area. I am in Macomb county Michigan. I have used ODmaster and Tidradio Bluetooth adapter. to import repeaters but I’m still not picking anything up. I am just wondering if after I import the repeaters and program them to my radio do I still have to go in and change any of the other settings for each repeater? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. I am recently retired and I am getting bored.

You say you are not picking them up, as in you hear nothing on that frequency? A few possibilities you might have set a CTCSS or DTS tone that is wrong - this would prevent you hearing anything? Forget software for the moment and grab the radio. can you type in any frequency on the keypad and hear something? Any band? Ham, marine, business, leisure? Lets say for the moment you can hear somebody chatting away on XYZ-MHz. type in the output (transmit frequency) of the repeater and wait? If you don’t hear anything - then either nobody is talking, or they are, and the repeater is just too far away. Ranges might be 30+ miles, but from here, we have one repeater 9 miles away, and I cannot hear it. If you have double checked the data for the transmit frequency of the repeater, then with nothing other than the frequency set, you should hear it, IF it is receivable and in use? Tell us what the repeater is, where it is, and what frequencies and tones you have programmed - somebody will be able to check.
