I recently purchased a Baofeng UV-82HP to facilitate getting back into ham radio. I haven’t been active for years, and decided to try it out. I bought a programming cable and programmed in a few local repeaters using the CHIRP software but can’t key any of them up. A friend of mine tried to key the repeaters from the same locations on his Yaesu HT and had no problems. I was able to make contact with my friend using simplex frequencies but I’m unable to work with repeaters. In addition, the unit gets really hot when I transmit. Is there a defect with my radio or is there something else going on? Thanks!
What have you checked so far?
Receive frequency
Transmit frequency
CTCSS tone
Can your transmission me heard on your friends HT set to input frequency.
Does the repeater come up but you cannot hear it?
or does it simply not respond at all?
Can you get your friend to set his HT to reverse and see if you can converse?
On full power, they get hot.
My guess is wrong CTCSS, no shift so you’re on the output, or a remote possibility - the antenna is faulty.
What do you think?
UntoldForce… Did you ever get your UV-82HP repeater issue solved? I have 2 of these radios so I may be able to help.
