Using radios on a large area farm

Hello guys!

I’m working in a farm i would like to talk with my friends on radio because it’s easier than the phone calling. We have a lot of land where there is no reception, but the radios are useable i think. Can someone help me to pick one?

There are a lot of questions that need to be answered to be able to offer help. You might try calling the owners of this forum BuyTwoWayRadios.com @ (888) 569-9499. They can help you with figuring out what you need for your situation. I have no connection to them other than being a being a satisfied customer.

The big thing is your budget, and the topography. If you phone them, expect questions about the land, as in flat, or hilly, the size, and maximum distances. Best case is a farm on totally flat land with the farm buildings dead centre. You put in a mast, slap a repeater up and have great coverage from mobiles and hand helds in a perfect circle. The radios may be quite cheap, the repeater and mast system the biggest cost. It is very flat where i live and these kind of system can give you maybe a circle of 6 to 10 miles using hand helds, maybe a tad more with a taller mast, perhaps 20 miles on a good day. Hand held to hand held, with no repeater might be 2 or 3 miles reliably.
