Using Midland GXT1000G radios for church security.

For the last few years we have been using Midland GXT1000G radios for our church security team with seemingly not issues. Is there any reason why we should not continue to use them going forward?

Absolutely not. If they still work and do everything you need i would stick with them. Reasons to change are practical. Battery life mainly. The cost of new batteries is often silly. Occasionally, you might have concerns over eavesdropping, in this case it’s a radio swap. Other than that, carry on. My favourite radio that still gets used every day, is an old Icom from the 80s. The buttons are a little worn out, its worn, but the battery still takes a charge.

Why is this even an issue? Have church members or leaders questioned the use of these radios and if so, what is their concern
Especially in this short range environment, they would provide excellent communication. If a base station inside the church is necessary, an outside antenna might be needed, based on the density of the church walls.
Privacy codes can be turned on if communication security is an issue.
GMRS is an excellent and inexpensive solution for church security.
