How can I increase the mic gain on my uv8000d?
You can’t - the mic gain is preset. I have read a few on-line posts saying that opening up the very small opening the mic sits behind improves it a bit, This was common on old Kenwoods and did work, but I don’t see hordes of people trying to do this? Is yours very low?
Well, I just bought a Smiley 1/4 - 5/8 wave telescope antenna Beef because the stock antennas seemed to have very high SWR (5 & 6:1) but it’s very heavy and I’m afraid it will break the radio connector. Anyway, the reports I got back were that my signal to the repeater was full copy but the audio was very light.
Right now it looks like I’ll be sending this antenna back. My NanoVNA shows it’s SWR in either mode is around 7:1 … completely unacceptable.

Those antennas are appalling. It’s 100% hype. at best 3dB, but I’m not even convinced there even is any matching, and the lengths don’t work. The thing is a dressed up receive telescopic.
