The Two Way Radio Show - Episode 8 - Talking Publicly About Privacy Codes

Listened to this ep. From memory, I think the hosts decided on something like “anti-interference codes”.

Seems to me this might be as counterproductive as calling them “privacy codes”. I think the hosts mean “audio interference” or “perceived interference” but I worry it hides the fact that radios on the same channel will still experience signal interference. In fact, the PL codes make it more likely since Joe Sixpack will not check for channel activity before keying up.

I can’t think of a good term, but something like “anti-chatter code” or “quiet code” would get the idea across without suggesting there is no actual interference.

The actual term was “interference eliminator codes”. It isn’t a term we made up on the show. It is an actual term used in the industry. The term is interchangeable with “privacy codes” and some manufacturers will favor one or another. “Interference” is generally understood among radio operators to refer to chatter interference from other parties talking on the same channel.
