I had emailed you guys last week asking what the KG-S65G was as I had seen it listed on an antenna page on your website. Yall responded that it was a new radio coming out soon.
If I were new to GMRS I would be looking at this radio. My goto GMRS radio is the KG-935G+ and I also have several KG-S88Gs. The biggest positve on the S65G is the addition of the channel wizard. That is something I didn’t think I would use until I got the 935G+. When I used it a bit I realized how easy it makes programming from the key pad I realized how useful it is.
I think the S65G looks like a good radio for someone new to radios but who wants a higher quality radio than some of the much cheaper GMRS radios out there. For me I still like the S88G with it’s higher IP rating. If I didn’t already have the radios I have, the price point on the S65G would probably be a big selling point. Having used radios for over three decades both professionally and recreationally I prefer the full keypad, but again, if I were new to radios that probably wouldn’t matter to me.
As I sit here listening to this podcast Verizon is down in our area. My wife just headed into town to pick our granddaughter. She has her pink S88G with her so we can communicate if needed. She and the granddaughter talked to me multiple times testing where we could reach each other and where we couldn’t. My wife actually said she was glad we have the radios. GMRS works well for us.
