Talk too, but no reply!

Sometimes while I am working at my laptop I’ll set my radio to scan and once in a while I hear somebody. I normally don’t chime in unless I can tell it is nothing serious or business. I can hear them just fine on my gxt-900, but when I go to say hi or chat they never reply. I know how far my radio can shoot. So, is my radio picking them up on DCS/CTCSS code and not displaying it and then not using it when I respond. If I can hear them I know my gxt-900 has the juice to send out a response. So what gives. If anybody has some insight on this issue let me know please.

could be 2 things…

  1. you have your radio set to the same channel but code 0…which allows you to hear other conversations on the same channel and different code

  2. they are using a repeater and you are on the same channel/code that their output frequency of their repeater is on, and their radios are too far away from your’s to receive your transmission…and of course the midland gxt900 isn’t a half-duplex radio so you can’t input to their repeater…thus they can’t hear you

I’m gonna go with option 1. Most of the stuff I hear are kids messin around, or a place of business. Although it could be option 2, I haven’t had much variance yet.
