I was wondering if there are any commercial SDR implementations which support FRS/GMRS or similar services. If not, does anyone know if GNU radio supports such services? Such an implementation would be an interesting project idea for one of my telecoms classes, hehe.
By regulation, FRS has rules that only allow Type accepted radios. GMRS has more leeway… but direct frequency entry on radios are forbidden. This is typical of ALL radio services, except amateur radio. There are too many restrictions to make this a viable experiment.

I could just try it in the confined environment of the lab though, with very very low transmission power of course. I don’t think it’ll cause any interference and it’ll be fun too.
