Hello, I really like the new Midland unit, but I need NOAA. I cannot find such a combination of features in such a device. Any ideas out there?
FRS, by regulation, requires a fixed antenna for the unit. Essentially, handheld only. Plus, limited by regulation to 500 mW.
Now, there IS a GMRS mobile radio out that covers the GMRS frequencies. The MXT100, a 5 watt, GMRS only radio. Simplex only, without the repeater pairs.
Some older commercial radios also have the Part 15 certification to be legal on GMRS; but are probably rare now and a bit more expensive.
With the cost reduction to $65 for a GMRS license, now is a good time to get licensed.
