I’m in Minneapolis MN and have a marine VHF which I bought about ten years ago for use sea kayaking. Have never transmitted a peep to date.
I was was fiddling with it this morning, with the channel scheme set to international, and find a continuous commercial broadcast on Channel 82, which from the manual I understand to be 161.725 mhz. I’ve been listening on and off for several hours and have not heard any station ID. The material is from an ABC affilliate.
Anybody know anything about this? Have the channels been reassigned or something? Or are these legit uses of the channels on land?
I’ve read enough to know that there is new tech at work in the emergency hailing business, and that it might be time to get a new radio if that is my primary purpose for having it.
