Welcome!
I have two GMRS-V2s. Good radios. They are the only handhelds that have 100% flexibility in channel programming.
Thanks alot as I appreciate it. I’m excited to get the radio. Can you pick up any police/ fire/ ems on it outside of your immediate area?
Well, police and fire have largely gone to 800 Mhz digital, which a GMRS radio cannot receive (or any other radio, except one designed for that purpose) There are a few places that still use the older systems; but you’d have to find that out on someplace like radioreference.com.
Thank you. I had heard digital was being used. Is 800mhz the same as what a digital trunking system basically is?
There are so many terms that Im trying to understand … is there any economical device that you could refer me to?
I should add that simply looking for a device to listen to only ….
Econimical is a pair of RTL-SDR dongles, free software, an antenna and cable. About $100, with moderate knowledge of radio principles and comptuer literacy.
Easy route, a digital scanner… about $600.
800 Mhz is what frequencies trunking typically uses.
Thanks! You certainly know your stuff!
Yes, prices are going to be everything in this game.
