Need help with my walkies i ordered

So i purchased some walkies recently and me and my mother used them for a while around town and they worked great for our needs the only problem was that she was hearing other people on the channel and think it was me contacting her so i bought a programming cable cause you have to have it to program these the manual said they was a BAOFENG BF-888S so when i got my cable i found this programming software BF888 BF888S Software - Miklor and read from the radio and fixed some CTCSS tones on 3 channels and wrote to the radio now when i transmit it doesnt break the squelch on etheir radio and you can hear it key up on a cheap frs radio on the same freq but the mic doesnt work you can hear the cheap radio on the BF-888S radio as long as your holding down the key that makes the static the model number on the back of them says they are a BF-88A and the other software i found called chirp has a developer mode and was wondering if anyone had one of these like mine that has the Model number BF-88A could download there radio on chirp and let me know the developer mode options so i could see if i could put it back to where they worked or if the software bricked my radios any help would be much appresated

Thanks in Advance FRS Aaron

in the pictures the ones that say unused and unknown is probably where something got changed hope someone can help me out :frowning:

well its the next day be away from the computer most the day hope someone can help me out with theses walkies

Can you go into the menu and change the channel info manualy?

where would that be located it has that on the other program let me take a picture and show you

you see where it say freq range but as far as finding that in chirp i dont know

i think the program i just showed you changed some options you cant see is the reason there not working idk probaly wont get them fix will be my luck hopefullly you can help me figure out something thanks by the way didnt think anyone was gonna reply

ok figured out if you put the squelch level on 5 its like open squelch so it has to be something messed up in the programming update! it does it on 5 threw 9

Why on earth did you go into developer mode? Its so easy to write one digit wrong and brick the radio, worse is if you forget to save the original file so you can at least put it back, sometimes.

All you needed to do was enter ctcss tones into receive and transmit and it would have worked. It sounds like you changed far more than that.

Its not very clear the current status and what exactly you did. The screens dont explain the before and after, and you cannot tell ‘correctness’ from hex codes.

i used the bf-888 program to program the radios i just been reading some stuff the model of my radio is a bf-88a so the program is what bricked my radio i was supposed to use chirp with the bf-v8a option from what i been finding out online have to buy another one just like it and get the files that way i guess

Isuppose the only good news is that you didn’t buy expensive radios and wreck those! Chirp is great but often misses out checking - you enter what you think is correct, it accepts it and zaps the radio. Manufacturers ones are normally safer.

thanks for your help and i got them somewhat working im real slow so gonna write down on paper how i done it and post it on here so if anyone else has any problems

If you have new radios - read them with any of the software available, and save the file before you fiddle. See ANY hex, you’re on a page you really don’t want to be on.

Yes, definitely first thing, download from your new radios and save that file away. That’s the only way you can do a true factory reset.
