Looking for review, and input.

I just received a set of microTALK PR 4200-2 WX by Cobra as a gift. This is my first set of two-way radios that I have owned. I tested them out to see how well they stood up to their 18 mile range claim. That is all it seemed to be…was a claim, I wasn’t even a mile away and could get no reception. I live on the outskirts of an urban environment, could this be affecting the performance?

Any input or knowledge would be appreciated.

It seems your radio is rated at .66 watt gmrs, .24w frs, that from the fcc site, doesn’t seem to have much power output.
