I have my Wouxun KG-905G set up to scan Group 1 which are GMRS channels 1 - 7. Maybe I don’t understand how it’s supposed to work but the menu function [23: SCN-ADD] Scan Add / Delete doesn’t seem to do anything. I’m trying to use that menu function to remove channels 1, 2, 3, 6 & 7 so that it only scans channels 4 & 5. Is that possible using the keypad? If so, can I do that using the programming software? Or am I completely misunderstanding what that menu function is supposed to do?
You can program the 905G to operate on any of the FRS/GMRS channels that you want. Unlike some radios where the channels are preprogrammed and cannot be changed that is not the case with the 905G. If you only want to monitor and talk on certain channles you have a couple of options. You can leave all of the current channels in zone 1 as they are and simply remove the channels that you dont want to hear from the scan list. You can remove channels from the scan list via the radio me u or by the software. You can also create a whole new zone with just the channels that you want to monitor and scan just that zone while leaving the current zones unchanged. Hope that helps.
Thank you for the reply.
If I could remove channels from the scan list via the menu, that will do exactly what I need. I can’t program it because Chirp doesn’t support the 905G and I don’t have a Windows computer to run the Wouxun software.
First off, here are my settings:
PRI-SCN = OFF
SCN-GP = 1
When I do MENU SCN-ADD, I select DEL and press MENU to select it but when I do that it simply goes back to the previous menu screen rather than asking which channel to delete. Same thing happens if I try ADD, it simply goes back to the previous menu without any further prompting.
Is there some other setting somewhere that I need to change to make the SCN-ADD feature work?
On the radio, use the middle knob (between the antenna and the volume knob) to scroll the the channel you want to remove from the scan list. Press the red menu key and then scroll to #23 SCN-ADD, press the red menu key again and then use the middle knob to scroll to DEL and this will keep the channel still in the zone but will remove it from your scan list. There is no selection for which channel to delete being as you select what channel to modify before entering the menu.
Thank you so much. Now it makes sense. I never considered that I needed to select the channel before going into the menu item. I was expecting the radio to prompt me for which channel to remove after I had selected DEL which it was never doing. Now it’s set up exactly the way I was wanting it to be. Thanks again.
