Hi… New here but not to amateur radio or various forum software…

I’m looking to find or start a thread on the new Baofeng uv5r+pro… I have one. Nice unit! Will try to review…

Welcome. There is always room for one more. Long time amateur here, but mostly using GMRS these days.

Thanks … I’ll go over to amateur and see what I can do. I’m curious… Why GMRS? I know of businesses using it, and also a few “civilians”, but few of the latter have licenses…

I use GMRS with my wife and some family in my area. All of the family members have no interest in HAM. We use the radios while travelling, during severe weather, during several cell outages we have had and during a wildfire evacuation. I share a well with a neighbor and gave him an inexpensive GMRS radio that we use during power outages so we can coordinate running water with a generator. I gave my son-in-law a nice HT and he got a license. He also uses his for hunting.

Makes sense for your family and neighborhood if you can convince the neighbors to spring for the license. There’s also the matter of occasional practice, something that hams actually like…
