hunting radio questions

Hello to all. My son is 10. Beginning this year he will be hunting in his own stand, and bow hunting at that. I am not yet comfortable enough to leave him alone so he will be hunting a lock on about 40 yards away from me in a climber. I was wondering if someone with expertise in the 2 way radio field might help me. I would like to get some radios that he and I can whisper back and forth to each other as he still needs lite instruction and with buck fever I want to be able to calm his nerves and such. Preferably with headsets. I want them to have an option to be completely silent with no vibration or option to turn off vibration. Don’t have to reach too far a distance since we will be in sight range. If possible would like to be able to talk to him and him talk to me without having to push a button to talk. Any recommendations? Thank you in advance. Look forward to your responses.

The number one radio for hunting is the Garmin Rino series. These radios not only allow you to communications on GMRS and FRS channels, but the radio has a GPS map on the front which allows two or more users to see each other on the map as the move around from one place to another. You can load topo maps on top of the preloaded road maps. One problem is the cost of the radios. The newest is the Garmin Rino 755T which cost $650.00 each. That’s a lot of money for a radio that you will use a couple times a year. I suggest that you go to eBay and find one of their older models such as the Garmin Rino 120 or 130. These radios are great for hunting and sell used for $125.00 or so. Occasionally you will find new Rino 120s for $200.00 or so. These are excellent radios, and you can find headsets for them in the $ 15.00 range.

The newer models have barometers/altimeters built in, along with NOAA weather radio, and now text messenging and real time weather radar on screen.
