Hi from central NC

Hello everyone, my name is Ron and I live in central NC. I got into the CB side of two-way radio back in the late 70s, early 80s. I still have my old President Washington AM/SSB base along with my Browning Golden Eagle R27/S23 and Sears Road Talker AM/SSB mobile.

I received my GMRS license WSAZ605 about four months ago and have acquired several radios over the past few months, which include the Wouxan UV9GX, Tidradio H3 and H8, Baofeng GMRS-9R and UV-5G HT radios, and I’m currently using a BTECH GMRS-50V2 as a base along with an Ed Fong DBJ - UHF J Pole for GMRS about 15’ over the roofline of the house. I also picked up a couple of Retevis H777s HT’s for the family to carry at events, just to keep things simple. I do all my programming on CHIRP on my Linux based PC’s.

I’m able to hit several repeaters locally with the HT’s as well as at distance with the base setup. My brother can pick me up on his HT about fifty miles away but can’t reply due to power and antenna limitations at the moment, but we are working to remedy that situation.

Welcome from the left coast.

Welcome from Flyover Country!! [Kansas] I spent some time programming some local repeaters into my new B-Fang UV-5G. I picked up a cheap CB a few weeks ago and I’m searching for an antenna with some range over the 1-2 miles most of the mag mounts do. Best of luck with whatever you dabble with.
