Ham lic.

Is it required to buy a gmrs lic. if you have a ham lic.? I am an inactive ham but my lic. is stil good.
I would like to be able to talk to my m/c riding friends but they don’t want to go to the trouble of getting a ham lic… If any of you are interested in getting a ham lic. they fairly easy to get these days. Just remembering some facts and I think you only have to get 70 or better on the test. Also much cheaper for your lic…

Amateur and GMRS are completely different services, and their respective licenses are not interchangeable. If you want to talk on GMRS, you must buy a license. No way around it.

Upside: No technical questions to answer. No tests to study for. Just pay and play.

Hope this helps.

Echoing the above reply.

GMRS and Amateur Radio are separate services. Neither have anything to do with one another. Both have their own regulations and licensing requirements.

You will be required to pay for a GMRS license regardless of if you hold an amateur license or not.
