Hello there! I’m a big fanatic of two way radios and especially smart radios. I am an expert specifically in smart radios such as weavix Walt Smart Radio so please hit me up if you have any questions.
I’m probably thick, but what on earth is a smart radio? Never, ever heard the term before?
Another network radio, I hadn’t heard of this one either had to google it.
Hey Paul, a “smart radio” is a new term…it’s more like a platform than just hardware that tries to support the modern factory worker communications with both software and hardware. It typically targets manufacturing and construction and sometimes hotels. Smart radios range in features but typically have features like geofencing, IP66, unlimited channel creation (without need for FCC involvement), WiFi/LTE, realtime translation, system of record (all messages are saved in cloud for auditing or reference), and they are also more than just the hardware, and real time transcription. They have software as well so a safety manager can send specific alerts and monitor locations. It often replaces different systems with a single system. You can also do this thing called ‘tap and go’ where your badge will log onto any device automatically and pull up your profile so people stop hoarding the good radios. I’m new here so thanks for the good question! What type of radio do you typically use?
What type of radio? There’s a question.
Amateur DMR and analogue, marine, aviation, business analogue and digital, leisure, digital and analogue pro audio, video links - that kind of stuff. The smart radio thing is new to me - I’ve not seen anyone marketing them in the UK, or maybe I have and we are just not using the term.
Pretty new. Might not have made it to UK as a category. It uses WiFi and cellular but still has a glove friendly PTT button and a big red alarm button on the top that can be heard for miles. Cross between smart phone and two way radio but on lockdown (closed system). You can’t use personal apps on it. Has backup FRS when needed but that’s just for redundancy.
