Just joined your forum. I Gregg and I live in the Pasadena, TX area. Pasadena is a suburb of Houston. My call is N5LYS and Iām a Tech studying for my General ticket. I realize that itās a little late in life (Iām 73 ) but I figure that I better achieve it now while I can.
My Dad (silent key W5TFP) was an Advanced Operator and the "radio bug" bit me at an early age, but I didn't do anything about it until later in life. I recently have developed an interest with learning to program my HT and my mobil dual band radio using CHIRP. I am AMAZED at how easy it really is! I am somewhat "computer literate" so I initially thought that CHIRP would eat my lunch.
The dual band that I mentioned happens to be a TYT TH-7900. I am ābamboozledā on a couple of things. I canāt seem to figure out how to program VHF frequencies to memory channels on the LEFT side and UHF frequencies on the right side like pictures of the radio shows me. I can program frequencies to me on one side or the other but when I do, it writes them to the other side as well. Also when I try to assign a frequency to one of the 6 "hyper memory buttons, the radio goes ābonkersā ! I swear, Iām about ready to throw the dang thing out the window! And to think I purchased it brand new from Amazon a few weeks ago!
I am forever hopeful that someone on the forum might be familiar with the TYT TH-7900 and could give me some insight as to what Iām failing to do.
Anyway, enough of my problems. Just wanted to introduce myself and I hope to frequent the forum often. Itās a good learning toolā¦
