CB radio linear

I have a question maybe someone can help me with. I have a Cobra 29 ltd classic radio and a Stryker SR-A10 antenna with almost perfect SWR but I have a BJ300 linear and when I’m useing it the SWR is off the charts
Any suggestions???

If the VSWR on the 4W from the radio is fine, then the antenna is tuned properly. It’s possible the meter simply can’t handle the power of the linear, and the diode performance is breaking down, so the forward current is limited, but the reverse isn’t so the ratio between them is squashed.
Try another meter to be certain. Perfectly possible the meter just can’t be accurate with very high powers. I suppose the output stage of the amplifier could be mistuned if it has been fiddled with by somebody keen to increase power even further?

Thank you for the response the linear was new when I bought it so I’ll definitely try another SWR meter thanks !!!

There’s also a small chance the meter itself (if it is the analogue needle type) is actually responding to stray RF in the room. I had this once with a patch cable between the radio and the meter. It was very feeble braid inside, I discovered and the RF was actually ‘leaking’ from the cable and on 100W or so, this was actually moving the meter needle. Swapping the cable stopped it.

Ok Cool I was just about to order two new jumper cables from Amozon bigger and heavier cable to see if that helps

Thanks again.
