I just picked up the Bofeng UV-5RH, But I have plenty of the UV-5R, But I am having a problem because when I use my UV 5R radio, I can hear Over my UV5RH, But the downfall is when I try to communicate back from the UV-5RH to the UV5R, If anyone has any information or knowledge regarding this issue please let me know I don’t know if it is just an upgraded radio and they are not compatible or what.
It will be the programming, probably tones. Check they are the same. Tell us what frequency, tones and bandwidth settings you have tried? Only takes one little difference to stop them working together.
can thay be programed to hear 911 disbatch police military fire ems
Now it gets tricky. If you have bought the common specific USA versions, these are often locked down to ham frequencies - so 145/440 (ish).
If you can type in a frequency out of this range and the radio accepts it, then it would normally receive things BUT - only if they are FM, with narrow bandwidth of 12.5KHz or the older 25KHz variations. The trouble now is that many services now are using digital modes, and worse, encypted ones and your radio cannot do these. Military is a real mess of FM, AM, digital, frequency hopping and satellites - so anyone’s guess there. It depends on what they are doing. Military air band is all in the clear AM - until they press a button.
In real terms now - many forums will carry topics like XXXtown PD, gone encrypted. One by one, they are shifting. So where you are is the thing.
