Basic advice requested

I am looking to buy a two-way radio set. Is there anything–at any price–that would provided 5-7 miles of reliable contact coverage in Manhattan (even between Manhattan and Brooklyn)?

I would be very grateful if anyone could offer some advice as to how to find such equipment. Clearly the ‘domestic’ stuff (such as Midland or Motorola) would not provide anything like the coverage I am looking for.

Absolutely. There are several GMRS repeaters in Manhattan. If this is for family comms you can get your one GMRS license for your whole family and some decent radios and you’d be all set. You just need to get permission from the repeater owners.

What is the intended use for these radios?
