Hi All - new to GMRS radios and have been struggling with testing range. I have an kg100g+ with an Yagi antenna mounted about 25’ above the ground. When i test coms with the kg905g at 4 miles, the transmission from the handheld to the kg-1000g+ comes in clear. However, the problem is when i transmit from the kg-1000g+ to the handheld it doesnt come thru or all static. I check the sql and its at 2. I tried different antennas, check both power and SWR, everything seems fine. I’m confused because if the handheld can reach the kg-1000g+ how can the kg-1000g+ transmission not reach the handheld? Antenna on handheld is a ano-050g please help.
The first thing I would do is try a different radio to see if it will receive the TX from the KG-1000G. It kind of sounds like the handheld may have a RX issue.
The Yagi antenna is directional. Are you sure the base antenna is pointed to the location you are at with the handheld? In my experience a Yagi can receive from a much wider angle than the transmission pattern.
Check all of your connections on your antenna feed line and antenna and check for damage on the feed line itself.
You might try different GMRS channels.
If everything is in good condition try moving closer to the base radio to see if it will eventually receive the TX.
Hopefully someone else will chime in with better ideas. Let us know what you find out.
base to handheld and handheld to base with tha same antennas rules them out. Two possibilities - the base transmitter is not putting out full power, or the receive radio the other end is deaf.
