AM radio (talk radio) receivers

This might not be the best site to ask but I’m wanting to find the best AM radio receiver for my home & shop to listen to talk radio on; so this is not a 2 way application.

I have a couple of the C Crane digital radios which are ok but they don’t do as well in our home as they do outdoors. Looking for someone who can help set up a better antenna so I can listen day or night.

Any help is appreciated.

Merry Christmas,

Gary

I don’t know of any specific antennas for that use but years ago I got an old car radio antenna and connected it to a portable Sangean AM/FM receiver I had and put the antenna on my roof. It worked much better than the telescoping antenna on the radio. Later I ran across a wire antenna in a small reel that had an alligator clip on one end that you just clipped to the radio’s telescoping antenna and then unreeled some of the wire and hung it behind a curtain on a window. That was pretty amazing. I have also used a long piece of speaker wire which I ran under my eaves and connected the other end to my radio’s antenna. That worked well.

I worked the back shift in a power plant for many many years. We got rid of our base station business radio but left the antenna, which was tuned to somewhere in the 400 MHz band. We attached that antenna to a C Crane radio we had in the control room and listened to all of the late night AM goodness every night, Art Bell being my favorite.

You might want to try a long piece of wire and go from there. I have been pleasantly surprised with just about everything I have tried for an AM radio. Just getting a piece of wire outside seems to really help reception.

Good luck
