900 MHz radios no license needed questions

Hi everyone. I’m new here. I have my GRMS license and enjoy using it, but I’ve been trying to learn about 900 MHz radios. I understand that there is no license needed? Is that correct? I also understand they are digital radios and frequency hopping is used to make conversations private or is this only with digital ham frequencies? I’m confused as you can see. Any help would be great.
Thanks so much.

The 900Mhz radios use their own subset of frequencies on the 900MHz business band. They are frequency hopping for extra privacy, digital for complete clarity and license free so anybody can use them for their application. Thanks so much. I do have one more question. What is the wattage ratings and do they get as much range as analogue 5 watt typical HT radios sir?

The forum’s owners have lots of ingo Here

A clever, no licence system that is of course design for local area coverage, so about a Watt of RF, but that’s not really important. These radios are not really individual radios but a system where they can cover typical business premises properly. They talk about square feet, rather than end to end distance. The idea being immunity from interference, reduction in black spots and an element of cleverness. They work more like private cell phone networks rather than radios.

Oh wow. Interesting. Thank you kind sir. I really appreciate it.
I didn’t see the radios for sale though on the website? Maybe I missed them, but under the websites consumer radios at least I didn’t see them?
Again, thanks so much. Very much appreciated. Great website and forum.

The 900MHz band is very good at penetrating obstacles without breaking down as fast as UHF band. We have seen the DTR700’s go over a mile with tree’s and buildings in the way at ground level, we have also sold these to massive financial and corporate buildings with large campus’ and highrise buildings made of concrete and steel. It is very impressive how much range these offer with only 1w of output power.

The 900 MHz radios are listed in the [business radio category]( 900 MHz Two Way Radios (buytwowayradios.com)), but they can be used by anyone, license-free.

The 900 MHz radios can be a good option for a lot of scenarios, and for a number of reasons. We’ve covered it in a couple of episodes of The Two Way Radio Show Podcast.
