I have 2 walkie talkies, a Baofeng UV-5R and a Yaesu FT-25, which I use to talk to my instructor whilst flying my hang glider. I wear hearing aids which have a bluetooth feature that allows them to act as a headset. I need to have some kind of bluetooth adapter that will let me connect one of these walkie talkies to my hearing aids wirelessly so that I can hear and talk to the instructor. I also need a wireless PTT button that I can attach to my basebar. With these things I could communicate with my instructor without removing the radio from my pocket. What do I need to buy to accomplish this?
I have had this conversation multiple times this month and it’s a real bodge. I have had some retevis aviation style headsets to try and while they have the remote PTT and work fine - my attempts to use them on a range of other radios have failed miserably. I’ve also had some bluetooth headphones designed for motorcyclists, but again trying to route the audio from the radio to the bluetooth system and enabling conventional microphone to go to the PTT has been a nightnare. None of the adaptors I’ve sourced have been wired the corrrect way for this to work. In the end, I got one customer going by using a small plastic box and soldering up individual cables to go to the bluetooth TX, the PTT and the mic and eventually it worked. I then filled the box with epoxy and it’s reliable. Adaptors, stacked up are just really a daft way to make it work - and never actually did it for me. The snag of course is there is no guarantee my ‘bodge’ will work on other radios. It might, but probably won’t. My retevis with an adaptor works on a kenwood, but no luck with a yaesu (or at least, so far)
