TYT TH-UV8000D programming issue

I have a TYT TH-UV8000D portable that I bought new a few years ago. I have programmed it several times using the TYT software on a Windows PC. I tried to program some new frequencies in today for an upcoming trip. I plugged the original TYT cable in and the software couldn’t read the radio. When I checked the com port setting within the TYT software, they were all grayed out. So I couldn’t choose a different com port to try again. When I opened Device Manager on the computer, it says “PL2303TA DO NOT SUPPORT WINDOWS 11 OR LATER, CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER.” I can find anything at all that explains this after multiple extensive searches. When I right click on that message and go to “Properties”, it says “The device is working properly”. When I click on Advance Port Settings, It shows it in COM 5. If I try to switch COM ports, I get an error message or a message that say whatever alternate com port I choose is “busy” with another device. I’ve never run into this before during several past programming changes. I can’t find any answers on any other forums or websites.

Windows 11 will no longer support that old chipset. The device used in the USB cable is not on it’s happy list. Two things sometimes help - run it from a right click as administrator - two of my cables require this, but others fail. You can go to device manager and it will be shown - probably with a warning triangle. You can then try reinstalling drivers, and windows might find one, but to be honest probably won’t. you have to buy a new cable with the modern chipset. The real snag was that the serial driver was originally a much counterfeited device, and many of the ones we use are very old, even if the cable is relatively new. The prolific drivers have always been trouble since Windows 7, or even XP. Windows 11 even occasionally misidentifies them as different sorts of driver - so, best bet is to see if you can update the driver. I have dozens of cables and loads now have little red tabs reminding me this one won’t work on 11. I even have an old windows 10 computer around for just this problem. Sorry!

I purchased the BTECH PC03 FTDI Universal Cable and it worked smooth as corn silk! It loaded in my Windows 11 laptop and programmed my TYT UV8000D without a problem. Thanks again for the help.
