Doesn’t this particular usage work out pretty badly in a risk assessment?
Vox operation is extremely unreliable as it works on the difference between silence and voice. The **** things are great if, for example you work in a library, and only occasionally speak, and every word you say you want transmitted - but even then vox has a habit of producing things like this:
“…op it’s about to slip” or “…ickly, or it won’t reach” - chopping the first syllable off each instruction, and if the first words was STOP, or NO - considerable problems appear. Users I know of who do use it develop the knack of coughing or going “phhhht” to kick the things into transmit - and worse still, you cannot get an instant reply because the other end have to wait for silence to appear again before transmit drops out. As soon as there is noise - motors, engines, workplace tools etc, the things get even worse. I have some ear defender headsets and they have a button on the earpiece, plus a dangly PTT, and a neat pit trigger you velcro to your finger - allowing you to simply close finger and thumb to trigger transmit. Vox only works in certain environment and in circumstances where the messages are not safety related.
There are single piece headsets but I’ve not seen any that don’t require a hand to operate?
