Exclamation Baofeng UV-5R V2+ vs. The FCC

If you own a Baofeng, you are probably already aware of the recent citation by the FCC for illegal marketing of the Baofeng UV-5R V2+.

In our latest episode of The Two Way Radio Show Podcast, we discuss this at length, and talk about the possible implications for all Chinese import radios in the future. This could open up a big can of worms.

Also, we talk about the new Kenwood NX-P500 NXDN radio and the new Icom IP501H LTE radio.

You can hear it all in TWRS-126 - The Baofeng UV-5R V2+ Cited by the FCC .

What do you think of the FCC citation? Do you think it will hurt users of Wouxun, TYT and other manufacturers of Chinese transceivers? Leave your comments in this thread, post them in the comments on the show page, or e-mail us at show@buytwowayradios.com. If we read your comment on the next episode, we'll send you a Two Way Radio Show T-Shirt and a swag bag full of free stuff!

My friend suggested me that If you chose any Baofeng radio, you can not legally operate on FRS since FRS has a 1/2 watt power limit. GMRS should be no problem with a 50 maximum. also keep in mind higher power seldom equates better coverage. Height of antenna has far more impact than power output. lastly not a single Baofeng/Pofung radio carries Part95 certification, Many consider this Cert. necessary to operate on GMRS legally. Take your time and chose wisely.

The power limits on FRS changed in 2017. The current rules allow up to 2 watts on FRS with an exception of channels 8-14, which are still limited to 1/2 watt, as noted in this chart of FRS and GMRS Frequencies.

Baofeng radios are not FCC certified for Part 95 and are not legal for use on FRS or the GMRS in the US.
