I read your post about external antennas. I have seen a configuration where a motorola radio with a removeable antenna was attached to a coax cable and yagi antenna. 1.5 miles down the waterway, was another radio and yagi and in between was a guy on a boat running up and down the river in a motorboat. He had a radio with a ground plane antenna. THe guy in the boat was calling a swim race and his calls were fed through a mixer board and then pumped out to some stationary speakers. I wanted to duplicate this setup but I don't know how powerful of a yagi/ground plane I can attach to a radio.
Any ideas how to gauge ?
    thanks for any help !!

Hi Chickenhawk, I have read your posts about the programming difficulties of the DTR 410, we have just received 4 of these units and I was able to purchase the programming cable, not the keyboard, so far I have been able to get the user names on the screen. We use the radios in a housing complex, two 3 story buildings, reception is not a problem. If you could walk me through the procedure of getting an all call channel and for private call with the names appearing on the transmitting radio and receiving radio I would appreciate it.
I would like to set them up as Radio 1 would be HCM Base 1, Radio 2 would be HCM Base 2, Radio 3 would be Jim and Radio 4 would be Ted.
Once I have gotten the names in the radios do I need the interface cable and computer anymore?
As far as groups and private channels go I'm confused.
